Picking the Right Roof Colour During a Restoration: Our Top Tips to Make your Decision Easier
How to choose roof colour

Are you wondering how to choose the right colour for your roof?

The hue can influence your home’s street appeal and can even make your property look bigger… or smaller! It’s also important to pick wisely as most people only restore and recoat their roof every 15-20 years so you’ll likely have to live with it for awhile!

So, with that in mind, there are lots of factors to consider when you are making up your mind, and we’ve shared some advice in our latest blog to make the decision as pain free as possible.

Picking the Right Roof Colour: 6 Top Tips

1. View the colours in person

Colours can look much darker on colour charts online and in person, but there are a few ways to get a better idea of how they’ll actually appear once your roof has been restored.

  • Drive by
We have compiled a comprehensive Drive Past list to assist with your colour choice.

It lists homes in and around Brisbane which have been restored by the team at JMZ Roof Restorations, along with the hue they’ve chosen and the type of roof they’ve got.

If you’d like to receive a copy of our drive-by list, please contact our office today on 1300 760 076 and we’ll email it to you.

  • Painted roof tiles in our office
At JMZ Roof Restorations we have more than 30 different coloured roof tiles on display in our showroom 3 Redland Bay Road, Capalaba, Queensland.

  • Get samples sent to you
Samples of each colour can be sent to you to give you a larger sample size to view. We suggest when you receive the sample, test it at different times of the day. That way you’ll be able to see what the colour is like in different light.

2. Existing colours and style of your home

Think about the style of your home and existing colours of other features like the fascia, gutters, soffits and garage doors.

As the roof will be positioned close to some of these items, it’s important that the colours complement one another.

If you don’t think they will, but you’ve got your heart set on a certain roof colour, you may have to repaint those other features as well.

3. Don’t rush the decision

Pick a colour you like and don’t be hasty making the choice, because your house and the colour of its roof is something you’ll be looking at for many years to come.

Also, there’s no recourse once the membrane has been applied, so we ask that you please choose wisely.

4. Heat reflective coatings and colours

The roof membranes we use at JMZ Roof Restorations are manufactured by Brisbane company Globalcote and have reflective capabilities.

Some colours are able to reflect more of the sun’s radiation than others, which means they’re better at keeping your home cool in those hotter months and can also help to decrease cooling costs. Learn more about this here.

5. Heritage listing restrictions

Is your home heritage listed? If it is, you may be restricted when it comes to colour choice. We recommend doing your research beforehand to avoid any penalties.

6. Ask for a professional’s advice

If you’re really struggling to determine which colour would suit your home best, you can always seek advice from the professionals at JMZ Roof Restorations.

Choosing a roof colour isn’t just about what looks good. In Ipswich, it can also impact how hot your home gets, how long the coating lasts, and how well your roof handles storm season. So how do you pick the right colour — one that’s both beautiful and practical? Understanding Ipswich’s Climate and Its Impact on Colour Ipswich homes face a mix of harsh elements: Intense sunlight and UV radiation High summer heat - Seasonal storms and heavy rain Airborne dust and debris Dark roofs tend to absorb more heat, which can raise internal temperatures. They also fade faster under UV exposure. Lighter roofs reflect more sunlight, keeping your home cooler and helping the coating last longer.
