Restoring RoofTiles: The Secret to a Seamless Roof Restoration

Restoring roof tiles can make a significant difference to the appearance of a tired home, but perhaps most importantly they ensure that your home won’t be damaged by bad weather or rain events.

JMZ Roof Restorations has been in operation for 30 years and in that time our professional technicians have restored metal and tile roofs for thousands of homes and businesses across South East Queensland. (So, you can trust us when we say a restoration will turn back the clock because we’ve seen our fair share of roof transformations!)

Our team strives to carry out the best job every time, and we feel particularly proud when customers return to use our services more than once. That was the case for one Brisbane homeowner who recently enlisted our help for the second time.

Restoring Roof Tiles

Just like any roofing product that’s exposed to the elements, tiles will deteriorate over time.

In saying that, when you notice signs like cracked or chipped tiles, you’ll want to promptly enlist the help of a professional as problems like this could lead to water seeping into the cavity of your roof.

Here at JMZ, the process to restore a tiled roof typically takes two whole days. And is more than replacing a few damaged tiles.

It includes:

  • A high-pressure clean of the roof surface to remove moss, grime and other contaminants
  • Tiles that are chipped or broken being replaced (find out why we recommend second hand tile replacements here)
  • Rebedding and repointing of ridgecapping
  • Applying Globalcote’s sterilising solution “Prepcote” and their sealer “Primecote”
  • Applying 2 coats of a Globalcote roof membrane

Roof Restoration Bridgeman Downs

In 2014, the JMZ Roof Restorations team restored a tile roof in Bridgeman Downs. We returned to that property again in 2022 to rejuvenate the home’s roof after it was damaged in a storm with heavy rain.

As a result of the wild weather, the roof needed a few repairs and some broken tiles needed replacing. Plus, we coated the surface with our heat-reflective membrane Infracote (previously they had it coated in Elastacote) to spruce it up.

The homeowner did consider a roof colour change but stayed with the same colour as they had previously.

We also installed a valley seal – a strip that prevents water and animals from getting inside the roof space – at this North Brisbane home.

Here’s what the owner said about working with JMZ Roof Restorations:

“This is the second time we have used JMZ. They have done a wonderful job and all of their staff were brilliantly professional. They replaced broken tiles, fixed problems and then painted the tiles. Thanks guys we are very happy. The final test will be the next heavy rains… ?” Keith T.

Choosing a roof colour isn’t just about what looks good. In Ipswich, it can also impact how hot your home gets, how long the coating lasts, and how well your roof handles storm season. So how do you pick the right colour — one that’s both beautiful and practical? Understanding Ipswich’s Climate and Its Impact on Colour Ipswich homes face a mix of harsh elements: Intense sunlight and UV radiation High summer heat - Seasonal storms and heavy rain Airborne dust and debris Dark roofs tend to absorb more heat, which can raise internal temperatures. They also fade faster under UV exposure. Lighter roofs reflect more sunlight, keeping your home cooler and helping the coating last longer. Popular Roof Colours in Ipswich Globalcote colour options for Ipswich homeowners: Surfmist: Bright, clean, and one of the highest for heat reflection Shale Grey: Modern and versatile with good solar performance Evening Haze: Soft and neutral with broad street appeal Dune: An earthy tone that blends well with older and newer homes Windspray: Subtle and stylish, suitable for various house styles All these colours are available in Globalcote’s Infracote (heat reflective) and Elastacote (flexible membrane) roof coating systems.
