Can you restore a roof that has solar panels?

Are you wondering if we can restore a roof with solar panels?

The simple answer is yes! In fact, it’s one the most frequently asked questions we get asked by homeowners.

We explain more below.

Can you restore a roof that has solar panels?

When it comes to restoring a roof the has solar panels, there are two options.

1. Have them removed prior to the work and re-installed once the roof restoration is complete.

2. Have them covered with plastic and taped up. The roof is then restored but the area under the solar panels is not painted.

We find the second option is the most common.

Restoring a Roof with Solar Panels

When our technicians restore a roof that has solar panels it doesn’t change the price.

In terms of the process, the only other task we have to complete is cover up the panels with plastic prior to applying any coatings.

IMPORTANT NOTE : JMZ Roof Restorations will not remove the panels prior to a restoration. If you wish to have them removed, you will need to contact an electrician or solar installation company.

Should a Roof be Restored Prior to Solar Panel Installation?

Ideally, if you have the luxury of time, it is always best to have the brackets for the solar panels installed first.

By having the brackets in before the restoration the membrane is not being disturbed or drilled into after the roof has been coated.

We then restore the roof and the panels can be installed after 14 days – allowing for the full cure time of the membrane before panel installation.

This way the whole roof is the one colour and protected.

If you’ve been considering adding solar panels (or upgrading your home’s solar capabilities) – now is the time to also evaluate whether a roof restoration should be done.

Choosing a roof colour isn’t just about what looks good. In Ipswich, it can also impact how hot your home gets, how long the coating lasts, and how well your roof handles storm season. So how do you pick the right colour — one that’s both beautiful and practical? Understanding Ipswich’s Climate and Its Impact on Colour Ipswich homes face a mix of harsh elements: Intense sunlight and UV radiation High summer heat - Seasonal storms and heavy rain Airborne dust and debris Dark roofs tend to absorb more heat, which can raise internal temperatures. They also fade faster under UV exposure. Lighter roofs reflect more sunlight, keeping your home cooler and helping the coating last longer. Popular Roof Colours in Ipswich Globalcote colour options for Ipswich homeowners: Surfmist: Bright, clean, and one of the highest for heat reflection Shale Grey: Modern and versatile with good solar performance Evening Haze: Soft and neutral with broad street appeal Dune: An earthy tone that blends well with older and newer homes Windspray: Subtle and stylish, suitable for various house styles All these colours are available in Globalcote’s Infracote (heat reflective) and Elastacote (flexible membrane) roof coating systems.
